Virtual Land 101 of Second Life

Land, Land and More Land

If you could own a private island, then would you? You could take your own private jet to your island and get a great tan. You could come back to work and boast to all your friends about how great your private island is and how your mansion sits atop this lovely beach. Too bad it\'s virtual land. Most of your coworkers would laugh because it\'s in an online Second Life game. But it\'s still an island and you want the best for your avatar, right? You can make money on the island by selling it and that is reason enough to boast to your coworkers.

Your Piece of the Pie

Virtual land is one of the perks of Second Life. World of Warcraft does not have it. Kingdom of Loathing does not have it and neither do many other of the virtual community games. It is a sole perk of the Second Life game and is the reason why many people turn to this virtual community. It is a great way to make money as is obvious by the number of people who are drawing in thousands of real dollars each month.

Fees

If you want to own any land, then do some second life business. Pay for a Premium package and various pricing and fees, and then you will be set to buy. For $9.95 a month plus a Land Use Fee, you have the opportunity to purchase this land that is virtual. Sure, you cannot take a vacation and sun on the beach, but your second life avatar can live right on ocean front property. The real estate Second Life offers is pretty diverse. You can purchase the land from Linden or you can go to auction companies such as Ebay and buy the land from other community members who are wishing to sell. Some will rent out parcels of their property, but you will still have to pay fees.

Show Me the Money

The money of the Second Life online land is referred to as Linden dollars, but it cannot be used for land purchases. However, you can purchase an island for under two thousand US dollars. You will have to pay land fees in addition to the cost of the land, as well as the membership fee. Remember that you cannot own virtual land if you have a Basic membership package. You will have to upgrade to a land package or a Premium package in order to own some acreage.

Base from extensive research, I think, yes , one can really make real money out of it if only he/she know how to play the game. But, just like in real life, only a few are good at it. Maybe you've heard Anshe Chung, the name of the land barones? Maybe you will answer me "no!" because Chung only exists in the so called virtual reality game Second Life. Chung or her true to life counterpart, Ailin Graef has earned popularity and even once a BusinessWeek cover as the first person to reportedly become a real-world millionaire from her virtual-world business.
